Bridal Updo's Do Not ALWAYS Need Hair extensions

As a bridal hair and makeup specialist, I am more often than not educating clients on what their hair is capable of and when it could use a a little help. If you have ever explored Pinterest for inspiration on hair and makeup looks, the perfectly pinned looks are more often than not a mixture of hair extensions and Photoshop. If you're opting for an updo, extensions may not be needed. In fact, they could only make things more difficult. If you're going for a full updo, try opting for some hair sponges to create the appearance of more hair without all the extra weight.

First on the list are the tried and true, hair donuts. Simply pulling your hair through and pinning curls around can make it appear that you have double the hair! They come in both light and dark, so make sure you get the color closest to your natural hair.

Next up, for more volume on the top of your hair, you may or may not remember "Bump it's" - You can get the much less gimmicky version that attach with a comb or Velcro.

Using a bump it is an excellent way to add instant volume and height to your hairstyle. To start, gently tease the section of hair near the crown of your head to create a base for the bump it. Then, take the bump it and position it horizontally against your scalp, with the teeth facing downwards. Make sure it sits securely and comfortably on your head. Next, carefully smooth your teased hair over the bump it to conceal it entirely. Once your hair is covering the bump it, use bobby pins to secure the hair in place, ensuring that the bump it remains hidden. You can then style the rest of your hair as desired, whether it's a sleek ponytail or elegant updo. The bump it will provide a noticeable lift and volume to your hairstyle, giving it a more glamorous and eye-catching look. Remember to practice a few times to find the best placement and technique that works for your hair type and desired style.

Now if your hair is above your shoulders or you're opting for a chic ponytail, extensions will be required. My first choice is always to see your hair specialist for a professional extensions install. If you're thinking you only want your extensions for the wedding day, then a halo (one piece) or a pack of clip ins could be perfect for you!

Halo hair extensions and regular clip-in hair extensions differ in their application and overall look. Halo extensions are designed with a single, adjustable wire that sits atop the head, hidden by the natural hair, and the extension hair cascades down to blend seamlessly. This method is quicker to apply and offers more comfort, as there are no clips or wefts. On the other hand, regular clip-in extensions consist of multiple wefts that need to be individually clipped onto the natural hair, which may require more time and effort. However, clip-ins provide greater customization, as they can be strategically placed for varying volume and length. While halo extensions are ideal for those seeking ease and comfort, clip-ins are favored by those who desire more flexibility and control over their hairstyle

The best part of ordering these extensions are the easy returns. So buy a few different colors so you can see what works best with your hair and simply return what doesn't work!
